Hell, to play with my friends right now, not only would I have to give up the not-finalized-but-so-so-much-better villager update, I'd have to give up waterlogging and oceans being something fun to explore rather than just an annoying obstacle to exploration. Mods that touched things that were dramatically changed would break still, of course, but even then there'd be actual names for things, there'd be documentation, not just a huge pile of completely meaningless renamed classes. Where's Forge for 19w09a then? If it was part of Minecraft proper, it'd exist. All of this is because Mojang refuses to actually support mods. To play with my friends - who insist on using a bunch of mods that don't interest me but I could just ignore them - I still have to give up features from 1.13, despite that releasing in July.
